What is the AutoWorld Webring?
This is a collection of sites with All types of Automotive
interest. From the Newbie to the Seasoned veteran, Auto Racing, Car Collecting, Auto Restoration, Car Shows, If you Drive it,
Show it, Race it, Collect it, Restore it. Car Clubs Are Welcome also.
Then the AutoWorld WebRing is the Ring for YOU.
The webring system is new and the people in charge of the webring are
still suffering a few 'growing pains', so I should say that it is not
always available. Hopefully its just a matter of time until everything
is smooth (we hope!)
We are attempting to create a 'ring' of Automotive sites so that finding
one site means that you have found most of them. Searching the internet
for Automotive Sites turns up lots of information about sites that have
lots of info - no info - duplicates - or dead ends. All of the sites
in this Automotive ring will have fresh, relevant information about our
hobby.
How to Join
Joining is simple, easy, and of course...it's FREE! There are a few steps
to follow, and they are important. Please follow them carefully to avoid
complications with the entire 'ring'.
The benefits of belonging should be obvious to all. Traffic to the
all the sites will increase, information will be easier to get to, and
everyone wins.
Make sure that your site qualifies
-
If you are a Automotive Enthusiast you're invited.
-
Your site is directly related to Automobiles.
-
Your site is NOT a commercial enterprise unless it would be an asset to the ring
PLEASE NO BIZ OPP SITES or GET RICH QUICK SITES
-
The page that you 'register' is the one that will be referenced from the
'ring'. This must be the one that has the 'ring' information on it. More
on that below.
-
The images do not need to be copied to your directory or your server.
-
Home pages usually do not qualify if its not an information source. Please
have some extra information on them before joining.
Now comes the time to register your page.
This is a bit strange at first, but it works fine. Follow me on this: When
you register below, your information is sent to the server and is held
'in queue', at this time it notifies us that you wish to be added and also
assigns you a site ID number. Now don't give up! This is all for a good
cause, remember? I was intimidated when I first ran into this program and
thought 'what is all this for just get with it and add me or forget
it!' It really is a good system though, and I believe it has a strong future,
especially for sites like ours that are fairly close-knit.
When you hit enter, ON THE NEXT PAGE you will be given a unique site ID number. Write
that number down somewhere. Add the HTML coding to the page which
you have just registered. The purpose of the ring is to link automotive
enthusiast pages together, and the link needs to be on the main area. Place
it anywhere you like.
Cut and Paste the HTML code into your html document,
You Will receive the CODE by Email with your queue notification.
There are two styles of the code, choose the one you like.
This is how this all translates out when you have pasted the code and the page is loaded.
The second style is called ALTERNATIVE CODE use this if you like the smaller one.
Be sure and change the following if you have FRAMES:
-
If you are into using frames..... well, of course it's more work! You have
to edit all the references to include the TARGET="_top" and add all this
code to your NO FRAMES section. But you will enjoy doing this..... you
must like it if you are messing with a pile of those frames in the
FIRST place.....
WELL, almost done, now just send me an email and tell me that the code
is on your page. I will need your site ID number that you got when you registered.
If things check out All right with the server, then we're all done.
Send Email to Dave Stockman (Ringmaster) classiccars@tripod.net
Maintaining Your Link
If you ever have to modify the information, that's taken care of right
here! (That's why you have a password)
